HOXTON GALLERY

Two years after opening Hoxton Basement a more suitable space for Hoxton Gallery's exhibitions and events was leased from a local drinks distributor on Kingsland Road. The Four Vintners had a dank and leaky old railway arch next door to their premises which Transport for London had recently repaired. The building works began in earnest by sandblasting the interior brickwork, replacing the electrics, installing new frontage, fire escapes, WC's and by epoxy painting the diamond polished floor. Just 30 days after signing the lease, the new venue was ready to launch Josh Cole's incredible Physical Graffiti exhibition on July 24th 2012.
It's amazing how well the community received the new gallery on it's main street location. The shape of the space was unique in the way that the artworks on the side walls were visible from outside. The doors were always open and the cavernous space was inviting, like a 'third place', accessible by foot or by cycle or skate. The open door policy was extended to sourcing the artists to exhibit and, for some good reason, the right people would always turn up at the right time.©Sylvain_Deleu_HG_09_12_03©Sylvain_Deleu_HG_09_12_29©Sylvain_Deleu_HG_09_12_30To be continued...
