The Mutilation of the Silver Box | XXXora & Carolina Maggio

Performance at the Hoxton Gallery, April 2014 Hermaphrodite artist XXXora in collaboration with Carolina Maggio and Dana Fox, invite you to witness the current legal mutilation of those born with ambiguous sexual organs. In tonight's performance, the artist will be cut, stitched, and stained by a team of trained accomplices so that the audience can witness the stealing of this "silver" from non consenting Unisex babies born in the UK.This show is in protest against the human rights abuses of Unisex people in this country, who endure systematic physical and psychological modification so that they can adhere to the black and white binary categories for gender which currently only exist in UK Law. We live in a gender dictatorship. Current UK law exacerbates society's mass ignorance towards the existence of the Hermaphrodite in all aspects of nature around us, by not making us visible in law, and thus culture. The United Nations are right. This is torture.https://youtu.be/yW9_uR5ip2gThe Silver Bo(x) campaign challenges the ubiquitous obsession within our species to modify nature, calling for a reclamation of a Unisex gender in our laws, as a biological reality, and not a fashionable oddity. XXXora has launched an eponymous petition on Change.org to recognise a middle "Unisex" Third Gender for the first time in UK Law, having been signed by notable art world celebrities like Sir Derek Jacobi, sculptress to the Monarchy, Frances Segelman, Graham Norton and Richard O'Brien. This evening's performance will also serve as a starting point for Carolina Maggio's art, Le Stain Desire. The stained scarves created here will be transformed by Maggio into a new collection of works inspired by and dedicated to XXXora and her cause. Rising artist XXXora is at the very beginning of this journey but her work is gaining considerable media attention as she appeared on the cover of the Independent's Sunday magazine last week, and is giving her first exclusive recorded interview this week with the BBC.Please follow XXXora's constantly growing art quest on www.xxxora.comFor more on artist Carolina Maggio, www.stainsart.com and www.lestaindesire.comA very special thank you to Dana Fox for his contributions.
